Obesity And Metabolic Surgery

Obesity surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, is a set of methods applied to patients who cannot get rid of their weight with non-surgical methods and aims to completely eliminate obesity. It is possible to get rid of this problem with non-surgical methods in the process leading to obesity, but after a certain line is crossed, non-surgical methods are absolutely useless. Excess weight seriously disrupts the comfort of the person’s life and threatens his/her life. In this case, obesity surgery is applied to the patient. Many factors can play an important role in the emergence of obesity, which does not develop due to a single cause. Patients are evaluated according to their underlying diseases, if any, their eating habits, the presence of a psychological disorder that encourages them to eat, and whether their hormonal balance is disturbed.

Metabolic surgery includes surgeries that allow both diabetes and obesity to be controlled at the same time. Metabolism, which has both physical and psychological effects, can be impaired due to thousands of factors. Cholesterol, sleep disorders, blood pressure imbalance, overweight and diabetes are the main metabolic problems. If these metabolic problems persist, they need to be kept under control. Surgical techniques applied to completely eliminate diabetes and other metabolic problems related to diabetes are called metabolic surgery.
Metabolic surgery is especially aimed at solving diabetes; the person does not necessarily have to be overweight; Obesity surgery is more aimed at solving weight problems and accompanying / related diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver, high cholesterol, sleep apnea. As can be understood, obesity surgeries are also included in metabolic surgery.
